Thanksgiving Day is an American holiday and not celebrated in continental Europe. On the fourth Thursday of each November, families and friends gather together for the occasion to celebrate with a traditional turkey dinner, usually in the mid-afternoon. Thanksgiving originated as a celebration of the year's harvest and is similar to the Mid-Autumn Festival in China.
Review the Thanksgiving History:
The "Mayflower" ship was filled with religious persecution of the Puritans to the Americas in 1620. In the winter, they encountered unimaginable difficulties but with the help of the Indians, the immigrants got a bumper harvest. On the day of the harvest, the immigrants thanked the Indians for their sincere help and invited them to celebrate.
They sang salutes at dawn, expressed their gratitude to God devoutly, and then set off a bonfire to hold a grand banquet, making the hunted turkey a delicious dish to entertain the Indians. The first Thanksgiving was very successful.
In 1789, Washington officially ruled that November 26 was the first national celebration of Thanksgiving. In 1941, the US Congress passed a bill approved by President Roosevelt, announcing the fourth Thursday of November each year for National Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving holidays generally last from Thursday to Sunday.
